It’s raining today and I’m having a hot coffee as I’m swaying back and forth on my dad’s rocking chair with my eyes close while contemplating about my life. And it feels amazing how this moment simply gives me so much happiness. So, I thought of sharing to you little moments like this that make my life worth living because of the bliss it gives me.
But you know what…
It took me a long time to find my happiness because I have always been so insecure and I am really hard on myself growing up. There are so many times before that I compared the things that I do, what I have & how I look to other people because I have always wanted to get the best version that I could to top anyone else. And if I don’t achieve the standards that I set, I berate myself and somehow it depresses me. It didn’t give me that fulfillment and happiness. At the end of the day, I still feel empty.
I have become so selfish and wanting to have a perfect lifestyle, I want everything to always turn the way I want it to, and I don’t know how appreciate the moments & things in my life that I should be thankful for. Maybe because I see happiness in a different perspective.
But as I grew older, life has taught me to be grateful and I started to notice the little things that made me happy. I’ve learned it the hard way though, but I’m thankful because it opened my heart to see small victories in life that are worth celebrating for.
#1 Falling Inlove
This comes on top of my list because when I’m in love, it’s so easy for me to appreciate everything around me and be happy about it. It doesn’t have to be just about falling in love with a person, but it is learning to fall in love with yourself over and over again. Some people might find it a difficult thing to do and I totally understand them. It’s never easy. No one can tell you how to love yourself. One day, at least for me, it just happens.
#2 Running into friends that I haven’t seen in a long time
It just feels nice to randomly see people that has actually been a good friend to me especially the ones I least expected to run into. There’s just something so precious about it even if we say nothing but hello.
#3 Giant mug of coffee
I love coffee but I am not that addicted to it. I could drink it three times a day and also not drink it for like three straight weeks. Well, there are just days of my life when the only thing that can mend a bad day is a mug of coffee. The smell of it warms my heart. And rainy days like today deserves one too.
#4 The sound of rain
I am usually having a hard time to sleep at night and the sound of the rain falling on the rooftop is just the perfect lullaby that could put me to sleep. And if in case it doesn’t rain and insomnia is toying my feelings, I have an hour mixtape of rain sounds that I listen to and it just quickly drifts me to sleep. LOL that’s weird! But when it rains, I feel happy and sleepy at the same time.
#5 Finding money in my pocket
No matter how down I am in a day, if it’s the same day that I get to find money in my pocket that I already forgotten, it just literally brightens up my mood. Money can’t buy happiness, they say. I don’t know about you, but sometimes they can.
#6 Sunrise and Sunset
Sun rising is one of so many things that I looked forward on the next day and I love seeing the sun sets & how it paints beautiful gradient colors in the sky. It’s a bliss!
#7 Finishing a good book, film, or anime series
I don’t wanna sound so dramatic but this both feels really happy and a bit dead inside. I don’t know, I guess I don’t want good things to end. What I like about it though is the feeling of being disconnected from the world that I know for awhile and just enjoy the new amazing world in my head.
#8 Peeling the whole egg in one go
Whenever this happens, I’m like a kid screaming and leaping for happiness. It’s insane! LOL! Oh, and also cooking a sunny sideup egg perfectly. This can make or break my day. 😂
#9 Flipping to the cold side of a pillow
Cold pillows feel good. Fight me if they don’t.
#10 Having a good hair day
Who wants a bad hair day anyway? No one. But it always happens to me. That’s why a good hair day for me can make a difference in my mood and everything follows from there, like, I could easily choose the prefect outfit and I can wear the most beautiful accessories of me–my smile.
I have a long list of things on my mind because today, I focus more on my life’s small victories. Here’s more…
- When my babyfur is letting me pet her (’cause usually she doesn’t let me mess up her fur)
- Feeling the clean fresh sheets.
- Standing/ walking on the correct side of an escalator. (Not all Filipinos can relate)
- The smell of an old shelf book.
- DAMN CLEAR SKIN!!!
- Remembering a vague but happy childhood memories.
- Choosing the right and most favorite outfit of day.
- When cravings are satisfied.
- The taste of my favorite food.
- Tan lines
- When I’m getting tattooed.
- An organized closet
- Everything about Disney
- FREE FOOOOOOD!!!!! (From people that I like to hang out with)
- Spending time alone and actually enjoying it.
What makes you happy? You probably have a longer list of happy things than I do. 🙂 I’d be very glad to read them if you have already written one. Link it down below or you can share your own little moments in life that gives you genuine happiness, too.
